This kokeshi doll depicts a beautiful woman in a gorgeous kimono appearing at a Christmas Eve party. The red poinsettias and holly on her obi sash evoke the approaching Christmas season. The pearls hanging from the poinsettias and holly resemble snow.
There are many different types of kokeshi dolls.
Izumi is a leading artist of creative kokeshi dolls.
Each doll is carefully handmade, resulting in a limited number of pieces.
Having studied Japanese painting, she sometimes uses Japanese painting pigments to color her kokeshi dolls.
As a result, the lines drawn on the dolls are refined and beautiful, and the colors in her works have a Japanese painting-like hue.
